ROXAS CITY, Capiz --- Capiz Governor Victor Tanco Tanco will meet with the members of the Provincial Local Technical Committee on Organic Agriculture on January 31 to discuss the salient features of the Organic Act of 2010, and to present the provincial plans and programs that are being funded by the Department of Agriculture.

Included in said agenda are discussions on the proposed organic food terminal, proposed Maayon town integrated farm and the presentation of the organic agriculture practitioners in Capiz, he said.

Republic Act 10068 or the Organic Act of 2010 defines organic agriculture to include all agricultural systems that promote the ecologically sound, socially acceptable, economically viable and technically feasible production of food and fibers.

Tanco said that organic farming will preserve soil fertility, productivity and minimize all forms of pollution which are very important for the present and next generation.

The province’s move of further promoting and implementing the said law is in consonance with the country’s policy to take steps in organic agriculture that will cumulatively condition and enrich the fertility of the soil, increase farm productivity, reduce pollution and destruction of the environment, prevent the depletion of natural resources, further protect the health of farmers, consumers, and the general public, and save on imported farm inputs.

In Capiz, many local government units have already started organic farming, especially in their rice and vegetable production.
