ROXAS CITY, Capiz –- Officials and teachers of public schools in Capiz are mobilizing stakeholders to join the Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Capiz Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Roel Bermejo said that after their weeklong Brigada Eskwela activities in preparation for school opening on June 6, they are starting today their Oplan Balik Eskwela drive.

OBE seeks to ensure that children are properly enrolled and able to attend school during the opening of classes. It also seeks to address common problems encountered during school opening, provide information, and coordinate with government agencies, communities and other

interest groups, according to the DepEd website.

This is in line with government’s mandate to provide quality and basic education as spelled out in the country’s Millennium Development Goals in education.

Bermejo said that through the Oplan Balik Eskwela, they will be closely working with the different sectors in the community, particularly the barangay officials to reach more children especially those who are out of school and drop outs.

He also said that this year, they are expecting more than 87,000 elementary pupils and thousands of high school students to be enrolled in the public schools here.

“Door-to-door strategy in mapping out¬ children will be employed with the help of the people in the barangays,” he stressed.

According to him, the Oplan Balik Eskwela will run from May 30 until June 10 as they will still accommodate enrollees even after the start of classes on June 6.

Bermejo said that all the 53 public high schools and 422 elementary schools in the Capiz division are now ready for the school opening after more stakeholders participated in Brigada Eskwela.
