Day care pupils win in talent tilt

ILOILO CITY - The province of Iloilo represented by the day care children of Rizal Child Development Center in Pototan, Iloilo won the Folk Dance Competition of the Regional Children’s Talent Contest held on November 29 in this city.

This is the third time that Iloilo province was adjudged first in the contest and they were hailed as the first Hall of Famer of the competition participated in by the different Child Development Centers in the six provinces and two highly urbanized cities in Western Visayas for the past years.

For winning first place, Rizal Child Development Center bagged P10,000 cash prize and a trophy while each children participant took home a token. Adjudged second place was the province of Antique and Kabankalan City, third.

On the other hand, four-year old Reinah Dumaraog of San Fernando Child Development Center in San Fernando, San Jose, Antique emerged winner in the Vocal Solo Contest, bringing home P4,000 and trophy. Pupil representatives of Bacolod City and province of Negros Occidental were named second and third place, respectively. Both received trophies and cash prizes of P3,000 and P2,000.

Consolation winners in the Folk Dance got P1,500 while for the Vocal Solo, P800.

Rosalina Lorque, Focal Person on Children of DSWD 6 said the event reinforces the right of children to participation. It was organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the annual National Children’s Month celebration She said it also provides participating children an avenue to discover and showcase their talents as well as develop confidence and discipline which also play an important role in their development and well-being.

Laurita Moreno, teacher and trainer of Dumaraog, said the activity is a big opportunity for children to display their talents and skills and to learn new things.

She said Dumaraog has chosen to sing “Bawal Na Gamot” in line with the NSM Month celebration’s theme “Bata: Iligtas sa Droga!" and through the song she learned about the ill-effects of illegal drugs. (jcm/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
