BAGUIO CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and its attached bureaus are calling on the public especially the overseas Filipino workers displaced from war- torn countries to attend the Labor Day Jobs and Livelihood Fair on May 1 and 2 at the Baguio Convention Center.

The two-day jobs fair organized by DOLE in partnership with the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and other government line agencies and partners, will offer local employment on May 1 while May 2 is allotted for overseas hiring and employment.

There are 27 international companies and registered recruitment agencies who are set to participate in the jobs fair offering about 3,000 overseas employment vacancies.

In a Kapihan Forum, Wednesday, launching the Labor Day celebration and Jobs Fair, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Regional Director Manuela Peña called on returning Overseas Filipino Workers from Libya, who plans to return abroad to join the activity.

Peña stressed that there are government interventions for those OFW returnees who plan to go into business or enterprise, but she urged Libya repatriates who wants to work again abroad to come and try their luck on the May 2 Jobs fair for overseas employment.

According to Peña, OWWA continues with its monitoring and crisis management programs for the OFWs affected by the crisis in the Middle East, and though the ME crisis has somehow subsided, their monitoring has shifted to the political crisis in Syria.

In the same forum, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Regional Director Delfina Camarillo also called on the returning OFWs, as well as others who plan to work abroad to take the opportunity and come to May 2 Jobs Fair. She stressed that it is better to go to the jobs fair than trying their luck with recruiters, wherein they may encounter illegal recruiters.

She disclosed that there are increasing victims of human trafficking and drug courier cases, which are associated with illegal recruitment, thus POEA is also intensifying its anti-illegal recruitment awareness and advocacy campaign.
